BMX
I was an angry child that didn’t do well in team sports. One day after my twelfth birthday, I discovered BMX racing. It was exhilarating! I could ride fast and win or lose on my own. It was a significant life moment because I found what I loved! About three years later, I began photographing BMX, which eventually led me to my career. I stopped racing around twenty when I moved to San Francisco to study photography.
I returned to racing when I was forty-one because I wanted to be active again, and the only sport I ever loved was BMX. Since then, I’ve rekindled my love for going fast and bumping elbows with many other “old dudes” who have also returned to the sport. I win occasionally but care more about riding different tracks and having fun.
